IFC is assisting the government of Odisha to implement grid connected solar photovoltaic power projects at several different locations identified by the government. Seven sites distributed across six districts—Balasore, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Boudh, Kalahandi and Angul—have been identified. The project’s current size specification calls for 1,000 MW, but this will be finalized based on technical due diligence in Phase 1 of the project.
At the moment, a detailed feasibility report for 275 MW has been prepared, along with legal due diligence. The transaction structure has been approved by the government of Odisha and is awaiting approval from the Empowered Committee on Infrastructure of government of Odisha, after which the selection process for private developer would be carried out.
