LED Streetlights for Bengaluru

Bengaluru has been grappling with the problem of inadequate streetlights for years. The Bengaluru public streetlighting PPP project aims to provide better quality illumination, lower energy consumption, and reduce CO2 emissions in the city by replacing 465,000 fluorescent and metal vapor fixtures with LED lights and other energy conservation measures.

The PPP transaction advisory under the shared-services model is one of the largest street lighting projects in India, and holds the potential to reduce the municipality’s electricity bill by over Rs 171.63 crore in annual energy costs as the monthly bill of Rs 12 crore for street lights will come down to Rs 6 crore. To fund the project, Rs 480.58 crore has been mobilized by private sector investment and the project is to be executed over the next three years in five phases.
